Charity class updates

Today a gorgeous class outside at Restore. My regular said it was like doing yoga with a constellation of daisies. Bring on the summer!! Can't wait to do more classes outside there- as most of the recovery from mental illness work they do is gardening- there are such beautiful areas to yoga in.

And to top off a lovely day my regular at the homeless day centre (who is just leaving prison) text me this:

bless u anne. its so nice to feel like a normal human being and not a number.           i lookforward to the next time.

Namaste!

I doubt that 7 little numbers have ever caused such a euphoric reaction before!!

What ups and downs this month hey? With the milestone of the rental agreement at Turl Street Kitchen. The kick in the teeth with the 'copy cat yoga quota'. And finally this massive up!!

It has taken months to get through the system but now, Yoga Quota is officially a charity!

I felt that it took ages, but one of Yoga Quota's trustees who has set up a charity before says it's actually very fast! Her charity is called Made by the Masai (thus Yoga Quota doing yoga for the Masai when they visit next May) check it out it's wonderful.

What this means for you...
  • Total transparency about where your yoga class fees go to
  • Total reassurance that everything monetary left after rent and all that jazz goes into spreading yoga around disadvantaged groups
  • More charity classes! It will be easier for me to get an audience with charities to whom we will provide yoga (reception is positive anyway- but now it is very clearly established)
  • More yoga teachers signing up to their own quotas! As a bone fide charity, teachers will be even more ready to sign up to their own quota.

Incarnations

Quite a few people who are dabbling in yoga are doing so from the purely physical perspective.

And I'm definitely not judging you for that!!

However, even if it just a toned bum you're after, not enlightenment. Or just injury recovery rather than spiritual healing... it would be worth checking into some of these programs as a 'nod' to the vast and rich background of India where yoga was developed.

I aim to listen to most of them... hopefully they'll release a CD or something but tuning in through BBC iplayer usually. Buddha was the first episode and I think you can still get it on iplayer (hurry!)

But for yogis interested in learning more about the context from which all your asana and your suranamaskars come from... it is well worth a listen!
